PREVENTION IS THE KEY!!
Prevention IS possible. Child sexual abuse is preventable. It will only be prevented if we, the adults of the community, take responsible action to protect our children and advocate for them. 
Through community collaboration, awareness is raised at a higher and more effective level, leading to more adults trained to protect children. It's up to us to protect them. Not one individual. Not one organization. Not one provider. Statistically TEN children are better protected for every ONE adult trained. Be one. Be a steward of children.

CHECK YOUR AREA FOR OFFENDERS

​Remember that just because someone passes a background check, that doesn't mean they can or should have freedom around children. Many cases of child sexual abuse are never reported. Therefore, many offenders are never prosecuted or on any type of registry. Always actively follow safe practices and policies to protect children.

We can accomplish a cultural change to help eradicate these crimes. Be one who helps stop a child from being abused. By preventing abuse, you could also help prevent child exploitation, substance abuse, homelessness, human trafficking, trauma disorders, suicide, teen pregnancy, mental and behavioral health issues, and a multitude of other health-related issues often associated with the trauma of child abuse.

What is Child Sexual Abuse?
  • Any sexual act between an adult and a minor or between two minors, when one exerts power over the other.
  • Forcing, coercing or persuading a child to engage in any type of sexual act. It also includes non-contact acts such as exhibitionism, exposure to pornography, voyeurism, and communicating in a sexual manner by phone or internet. (*source D2L.org)

Child Sexual Abuse does not discriminate. This crime happens among all socioeconomic and education levels, races, religions and backgrounds.

Preventing child sexual abuse helps prevent domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST). It is estimated that greater than 90% of children who become victims of exploitation or trafficking were first victims of CSA.
